The covered entity (CE), El Paso Healthcare System, Ltd. d/b/a Las Palmas Del Sol Healthcare, reported that a workforce member used their access to the CE’s records to search for patients with specific diagnoses and subsequently could have disclosed that PHI to unauthorized individuals. The PHI involved included Clinical, demographic, and service/treatment information of approximately 1,854 individuals. The CE notified HHS, the affected individuals and the media. In response to the breach, the CE implemented additional HIPAA training and additional safeguards.
