The covered entity (CE), Renown Health, reported that its business associate (BA) experienced a ransomware attack affecting the electronic protected health information (ePHI) of 65,181 individuals. The ePHI involved included names, addresses, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and diagnoses/conditions. The CE notified HHS, affected individuals, the media, and provided substitute notice. The BA provided affected individuals with complimentary identity and credit monitoring services. In its mitigation efforts, the BA strengthened its technical and security safeguards to better protect sensitive data.
